Exploring the Art of Stagecraft (2024)

The basic concept of this summer school is to introduce children to the different aspects of stagecraft: all the things that go into making a performance, be that on stage or in front of a camera.

In 2024, we took a creative journey through time, looking at theatrical eras and genres… exposing students to different decades and styles – a journey in a Time Machine.

During the week we not only took them on a journey through time, but beyond the performance aspect of a show. Alongside core drama activities, we also uniquely offered our students the chance to get hands-on with one (or more) of the behind the scenes activities, whether creating a visual impression through scenery or props; creating a “look” with costumes, hair & make-up; building or enhancing the atmosphere with lighting and sound effects; in addition to learning some lines, songs, and choreographed dance moves!

We wanted to show them that a performance is the coming together of many different elements in order to tell a story and to offer students who are more interested in being behind the scenes the chance to learn and grow as well.
